Local Area Scholarships

All applications deadlines must be met. No deadlines will be extended. All applications must be typed and turned into the counselor. Because of the interest rates on all certificates of deposit, the amounts of these scholarships are not guaranteed. Some of the amounts stated are estimates. JAMES DAVID  “Buddy”  BRYANT  MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

1.  The applicant must be a senior currently attending High School in Reno County.

 

2. The applicant must continue his/her education at an institute of higher learning in the fall semester      

    following graduation.

 

3.  The applicant must complete eight (8) hours of Community Service for one of the following:

       Penwell-Gabel Cemetery: 620-665-8269

       City of Haven: 620-465-3618

       City of Nickerson: 620-422-5981

      “18 for Buddy” Golf Tournament: 620-665-7182

     (Proof/ verification must be attached or mailed to the Bryant Family by JULY 15.

 4.  The application must be completed and returned to the Counselor's Office by March 24, 2017.

RUSTY ECK FORD SCHOLARSHIP

 

1. This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be given to one male and one female from Haven High School.

 

2. Applicants must plan on attending a vocational school, a two year college, or a four year university as a full time student.

 

3. The application must be completed and returned to the Counselor's Office by March 6, 2017.

David and Florence Wright Scholarship

Requirements:
Senior male athlete who has exhibited the following characteristics during his athletic career at Haven High School:

  1. Sportsmanship

  2. Attitude

  3. Effort

Margaret L. Smith Decker Scholarship

 The scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to current graduating Haven High School seniors who are furthering their careers through higher educational pursuits. Qualified individuals are those who possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher and are pursuing a degree in nursing, business, or a public service field. Preference given to candidates with financial need. One (1) scholarship will be awarded. The dollar amount given is based on money available as well as the talent and work ethic of those applying. Recipient will be announced at the Haven High School Awards Ceremony. Scholarship is not renewable.

 City of Haven Scholarshi

1. This is a $500 scholarship that will be given to two students from Haven High School.

 

2. Applicants must reside within the city limits of the community of Haven.

 

3. The application must be completed and returned to the Counselor's Office by March 24, 2017.

HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient must demonstrate exceptional character, community

involvement, an interest in school activities and the potential for academic

success.  A grade point average no less than 2.5.  The recipient must be

planning to attend a vocational school, a 2 year community college or an

accredited 4 year university as a full time student.

Financial need will be considered as a factor.
The selection committee will use the following criteria:

                   Scholarship                    50%

                   Financial need                30%

                   Leadership/Citizenship   20%

 Each candidate is required to submit 2 letter of reference: 
(Forms f
or these letters are included in this packet.)

                   One letter of reference is from a high school faculty member.

                   One letter of reference is from a non-school adult.

 An oral interview with each applicant may be conducted by the selection committee if necessary.

 Recipients of this scholarship will receive the monetary compensation for this award upon showing proof of enrollment as well as proof of  billing or payment of fees or tuition. All documents should be submitted to the Haven High School Counselor.

There will be two Alumni Scholarships awarded in the amount of $500.00 each.

LA CADENA CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

 

1.  A scholarship of $300 will be awarded to a Haven High School Senior.

 

2. This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant based on future goals, academic achievement, and economic needs.

 

3. The application must be completed and returned to the Counselor's Office by March 24, 2017.

FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF HUTCHINSON SCHOLARSHIP

 

1. Two scholarships of $500 each will be awarded to (2) Haven High School Seniors.

 

2.  This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant based on future goals, academic achievement, and economic needs.

 

3.  The application must be completed and returned to the Counselor's Office by March 24, 2017.

HAVEN HIGH WILDCAT BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

 

1.  Scholarships will be awarded to 15% of the graduating class

 

2.  Scholarship amounts will be $200

 

3.  Scholarships are awarded based on involvement in school and community activities, school and community leadership, grades and special honors and accomplishments.

 

4. The application must be completed and returned to the Counselor's Office by March 24, 2017.

The Mary E. Windsor/Congregational Church

Memorial Scholarship

 1.  A scholarship of $1,000.00 will be awarded to a Haven High School senior.

 2.  Planning to attend a college, community college, or technical school

 3.  Has a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 for all four years of high school.

 4.  Financial need will be considered.

 5.  The application must be completed and returned to the Counselor's Office by March 24, 2017.

SALLY COBERLY SCHOLARSHIP

 

1.  $500 scholarship awarded to a Haven High School senior.

 2.  Student who has excelled in debate, forensics, scholar bowl, or any writing competition during the current school year and plans to continue their education at the post secondary level.

 3.  The application must be completed and returned to the Counselor's Office by March 24, 2017.

Linda Shores Music Scholarship

 This $200 scholarship is being given in memory of Linda Shores.  Because of her love of all things musical, the scholarship will be awarded to a Haven High School senior that is a band member.

The scholarship is due to the counselor’s office by March 24, 2017.

Veteran’s Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a Haven High School Senior

This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant based on future goals, academic achievement, and economic needs

Reno County Farm Bureau Association Scholarship


·
   Applicant must be enrolled in an agricultural related Vocational program or majoring in an Agricultural related field.

·   Applicant must be a high school Senior or college Freshman.

·   Scholarship can be used at any Kansas College or Vo-Tech School.

·   Applicant plans to take a minimum of 12 credit hours.
·   Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or better.
·  Parents or guardians must be members in good standing of the Reno County Farm Bureau in the year the scholarship is awarded.
AMOUNT:  The winner(s) will be awarded a $500 scholarship which will be sent directly to the school.

DEADLINE:  Scholarship applications are due March 7th.

                    Shelter Insurance Scholarship  

A personal statement from the student, and either a teacher or counselor. Criteria – Must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.  Very involved in school (athletics/school activities).  Prefer to have volunteer experience.  Someone that will use the money for college, and is in financial need in order to attend.
This application must be filled out and returned to Counselor's by March 24, 2017.
