Internet Safety & Cyber Bullying Training Held at Mt Hope Grade School

November 12, 2008

Today I attended several presentations on Internet safety and
cyber-bullying that put on by NetSmartz in conjunction with
the Boys and Girls Club.

The presentations were given to all students at Mt. Hope and
were broken down into age/grade-level appropriate topics and
content. The students were very attentive and responsive and I
think it will make a positive impact on those in attendance.

The state and federal government will require this type of
training in the upcoming school year for all students in order
to obtain some types of funding. Fortunately this training was
given at no cost to the district and the same will hold true for
future sessions.

NetSmartz provides training for K-12, as well as, parents and I am
confident that other schools in the district will follow suit
with student and parent training from NetSmartz.

Below are some of the online resources that were referenced in
the presentations and parents and students are highly encouraged
to visit these site to expand and reinforce the lessons learned:

NetSmartz Site - http://www.netsmartz.org/

Teen Safety Site Using Comics and Videos - http://www.nsteens.org/

Site to report exploitation of children and cyber crimes- http://www.cybertipline.com/

Special thanks to Barbra Sauer and Mike Fast for arranging and hosting this first of its kind presentation in USD312. Also, thanks to the Boys and Girls Club and our presenter, Mrs. Higginbotham.
