Today we celebrate the dedicated substitute educators who step into classrooms with flexibility, courage, and a whole lot of heart. Thank you for showing up, adapting, and making a difference!

All buildings will be closed November 24-28 for break. We hope you enjoy a restful and joyful holiday with your family. Safe travels, happy feasting, and we’ll see everyone back after the break!

Show the school support staff in your life how much they mean to you and the students they serve; thank them, listen to them, and amplify their great work! Thank you to all the para professionals who keep our schools running smoothly.

When parents and guardians stay involved, students feel supported, motivated, and confident. Whether it’s checking in about homework, attending school events, or simply asking about your student’s day, every small moment of engagement makes a big difference.
This week, we celebrate you—the families who read with their students, show up for conferences, cheer from the sidelines, and work alongside teachers to help our students grow.

November 17-21 is American Education Week! 📚🎉
This week, we celebrate the incredible educators, staff, families, and students who make learning possible every single day. Education is more than lessons and textbooks; it’s the spark that opens minds, builds confidence, and shapes futures.
You can join the celebration by visiting the National Education Association website to learn more or send an e-card to your favorite educator or support staff!

USD 312 Families-
I would like to quickly review the process that is followed when it comes to deciding if school should be closed due to inclement weather. Reasons that could impact the status of school includes: below freezing temperatures, predicted snow/sleet, road conditions, fog, etc.
When inclement weather is predicted, preparation will begin as soon as possible by our facility and grounds crew. We assess the situation and weather predictions around USD 312. During this time, I will communicate with my contacts to further assess the scope of the impact the weather has on our buses, roads, and other area schools. An announcement could be made the night before but is sometimes made in the morning hours before school. We will always try to make that decision as early as possible to help families make necessary plans.
The following steps will be taken once a decision has been made.
-If the decision is made to postpone the start of school or cancel school, the Superintendent will immediately notify parents/guardians and staff via a voice call.
-An email and text will go out to all staff and families.
-After those initial notifications, we will follow our standard notification procedures (news media, social media, websites, etc.).
As you can see, it is very important to have your contact information up to date. Please contact your school office if you have not been receiving district emails so we can update your contact info.
If school is NOT canceled and remains in session, you will NOT have any notifications from us. This is to reduce the confusion of adding additional messaging for parents, students, and staff to sort through when searching for the most updated postings. We will alert you if school is canceled, we will not alert you when school is in session. If you feel it is safer for your child to stay home, please contact the office and it will be counted as an excused absence.
When school is canceled all campus activities (including community facility use) are canceled for that day and evening. If students have scheduled activities away from school, coaches and sponsors will communicate directly with their teams and activities.
Thank you for taking the time to stay informed on our winter weather processes. Student and staff safety is our top priority as we make school closure decisions.
Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.
Proud to be a Wildcat,
Craig Idacavage, Superintendent

Due to anticipated inclement weather on Friday, the football game at Kingman has been moved to Thursday night, October 23, 2025. Kickoff will remain at 7:00 p.m.
Because of this schedule change, Parent-Teacher Conferences will conclude at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. If you had a conference scheduled during that two-hour window, your child(ren)’s teacher will reach out to reschedule at a convenient time.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and flexibility. Go Cats!

School buses are the safest form of transportation for students, but safety depends on all of us:
• Drivers: Always stop for the flashing red lights and extended stop arm. It’s not just the law, it could save a life.
• Parents: Remind your children to stay alert, avoid distractions, and follow the bus driver’s instructions.
• Students: Stand back from the curb, cross only when the driver signals, and never walk behind the bus.
Let’s work together to keep our roads safe and our kids even safer.

Laurel Scott – Principal Advocate Award
We are thrilled to recognize Laurel Scott, one of only three principals in Kansas to receive the Principal Advocate Award from the Kansas School Counseling Association!
Over the past six years, Mrs. Scott has been an incredible partner, mentor, and champion for students and staff alike.
Her support of school counseling goes above and beyond:
Turning ideas into action, like creating a school-wide PBIS initiative based on student voice data
Restructuring responsibilities so counselors can work directly with students and families
Providing funds and opportunities for professional growth and conferences
Elevating the voice of school counselors to ensure student success is prioritized
Mrs. Scott’s leadership demonstrates that school counseling is vital to every student’s achievement. She consistently listens, collaborates, and uses her position to make a real difference in the lives of students, staff, and families.
We are so proud of her and grateful for her dedication!

🏫 Safe Schools Week 2025
📅 October 20–26
#SafeSchoolsWeek #SafetyStartsWithUs
This week, we come together to recognize Safe Schools Week; a time to reflect on the importance of creating learning environments where every student feels safe, respected, and supported.
A truly safe school isn’t just about physical safety; it’s also about emotional well-being, inclusivity, and a culture of kindness. When students feel safe, they can focus on what matters most: learning, growing, and becoming the best versions of themselves.
